It is Friday again – and one of the most beloved Friday practices is sending salawat (blessings) upon the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. It is easy for children and adults, takes only seconds, and carries enormous reward.

A Command from Allah

Allah says: "Indeed, Allah and His angels send blessings upon the Prophet. O you who have believed, ask (Allah to send) blessings upon him and ask (Allah to grant him) peace." (Surah Al-Ahzab, 33:56)

Ten Blessings for One

The Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever sends one salah (blessing) upon me, Allah will send ten upon him." (Sahih Muslim, 408)

Imagine: every time you say "Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammad", Allah sends His mercy upon you ten times!

Especially on Friday

The Prophet ﷺ said: "Among the best of your days is Friday… so send a great deal of salah upon me on that day, for your salah is presented to me." (Sunan Abi Dawud, 1047)

What to Say

Short form:

Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammad – "O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad."

Or simply say "sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam" whenever you mention or hear his name.

The complete form (Salat al-Ibrahimiyyah) – the one we recite in the last sitting of every prayer:

(Sahih al-Bukhari, 3370)
