Rajab, Shaban and Ramadan 1448: Set Your Quran Goals Now

We are now in the second half of Jumada al-Awwal 1448. Looking ahead on the Islamic calendar, some very special months are coming: Rajab (expected around 10 December 2026), Sha'ban (around 9 January 2027) and Ramadan (around 8 February 2027) – all dates depending on moon sighting. This is the perfect time to set Quran goals for the rest of the year.

Why Plan Now?

Many people start Ramadan wishing they could read the Quran more fluently, or wishing they had memorised more surahs. Ramadan is only about three months away. If you start now, you will enter Ramadan stronger, not scrambling.

Step 1: Know Where You Are

Be honest about your current level:

  • Beginner: can't yet read Arabic letters fluently
  • Reader: can read, but with mistakes in pronunciation
  • Fluent reader: reads well and wants to apply Tajweed or memorise
  • Memoriser: already doing Hifz and needs a revision plan

Step 2: Set One Clear Goal per Person

Examples for the next three months:

  • Young child: finish the first half of the Noorani Qaida, and memorise Surahs Al-Fil to An-Nas.
  • Older child: start reading from the Mushaf, or memorise the last ten surahs of Juz Amma.
  • Teen: complete reading one juz per month with correct Tajweed.
  • Adult beginner: learn to read the Quran so you can read in Ramadan yourself.
  • Adult reader: plan to complete a full reading (khatm) of the Quran during Ramadan.

Step 3: Break It Down

Big goals become easy when divided into small daily tasks. For example, reading the whole Quran in Ramadan means about 20 pages a day – that's roughly 4 pages after each prayer. Practise reading 2–4 pages a day now, and it will feel natural by Ramadan.

Step 4: Build the Habit

  • Choose a fixed time each day – after Fajr or after Maghrib works well.
  • Keep the Mushaf somewhere visible.
  • Track progress on a simple chart.
  • Remember: "The most beloved deeds to Allah are those done consistently, even if small." (Sahih al-Bukhari 6464, Sahih Muslim 783)

Step 5: Get a Teacher

A teacher keeps you accountable, corrects mistakes and helps you progress faster. Even two or three short classes a week can transform your recitation in three months.

A Du'a for the Journey

رَبِّ زِدْنِي عِلْمًا

Rabbi zidni 'ilma – "My Lord, increase me in knowledge." (Surah Ta-Ha, 20:114)
